Coinbase Wallet Integrates Unstoppable Domains For .Crypto Domains

Coinbase Wallet Integrates Unstoppable Domains

In a bid to streamline the use of cryptocurrencies in making payment, Coinbase has announced that it has integrated Unstoppable Domains “.crypto” domain registry to its wallet.

According to a press release, Coinbase users can send crypto by typing a user’s blockchain domain with .crypto extension (abc.crypto for example) into the send field instead of the usual long addresses.

Also, the integration would enable users to register and manage their domains via the Coinbase dapp browser and store their domains inside their Wallet’s Collectible Section, the release stated.

Commenting on the development, Unstoppable Domains Co-founder Brad Kam said that using blockchain domain extensions in making payments will become a standard adopted by all crypto wallets in the future.

“By supporting blockchain domains, Coinbase is single-handedly moving this market into the crypto mainstream,” he added.

Making crypto payments simple

Launched in 2018, Unstoppable Domains aims to enhance the process of making payments with cryptocurrencies via its “.crypto” solution, while fostering the mainstream adoption of cryptos.

The use of blockchain domains would ensure that users’ websites are uncensorable, thus eliminating the influence central authorities like governments have over the type of content users choose to put on their websites.

Unstoppable Domains has also developed an extension for popular web browsers such as Google Chrome and Opera Mini to deliver censorship-resistant websites.

The San Francisco-based domain company said over 250,000 website owners have registered their domains using the service since it launched. The integration with Coinbase will likely spike the adoption rate of blockchain domains, the firm added.

Unstoppable Domains is currently backed by the Draper Associates and Boost VC and has raised a total of $4.73 million.  The firm noted that it also received grants from the Ethereum Foundation and Zilliqa Foundation to boost its operation.

Meanwhile, Coinfomania reported that Ethereum Name Service (ENS) developer, Nick Johnson, launched a similar initiative to enable ENS users to adopt a “.xyz” domain name to connect their wallets, smart contracts, and other blockchain services.
