The Ripple CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, announced on March 19 that the SEC will be dropping its case against Ripple. In his X post, he also published a video and said brighter days are coming. However, the lack of an official statement from the SEC was creating doubts about the credibility of this news. The new SEC leadership had closed various cases related to crypto companies, and each had an official announcement. On March 25, we got an announcement from the Ripple CLO, Stuart Alderoty, stating that Ripple is dropping its cross-appeal. As such, although the appeal and cross-appeal have been dropped, the Ripple vs SEC legal battle has not completely finished.
Ripple Agrees to Drop Appeal—SEC Cuts Fine by $75 Million
Some of the main remaining issues involve the restrictions which the judge put on Ripple. As per last year’s ruling, Ripple will not be able to sell XRP tokens to institutional clients. Another part of the original ruling was the $125 million fine, which was given to Ripple. Based on the statement Alderoty published, however, this fine was reduced as part of Ripple and the SEC’s agreement. Now the fine is $50 million, as Ripple has agreed to drop its cross-appeal in return for such a decrease. As such, there still remain a few steps before the Ripple SEC lawsuit officially ends.
The End in Sight? SEC Prepares to Wrap Up Ripple Case
SEC now needs to get the approval of Judge Analisa Torres to drop the injunction on institutional sales of XRP tokens. The March 25 X announcement by Stuart Alderoty also highlighted some of the next steps to this legal battle’s end. These include the commission’s vote, drafting of the final documents, and court processes. After this statement, Attorney Rispoli also gave an update on this process in an X post. He mentioned that the final documentation has already been prepared. As such, if nothing unexpected happens, the process of the Ripple lawsuit ending has started.
UPDATED SEC v. RIPPLE TIMELINE
— Fred Rispoli (@freddyriz) March 25, 2025
With the announcement by @s_alderoty, you better believe the paperwork has been drawn up already.
Now we wait on a vote by SEC Commission (less than 30 days).
Then we wait on filing by SEC to lift injunction, which will be unopposed by @Ripple.…
As mentioned before, the commission vote is the next step before we reach the Ripple lawsuit ending. This means that the SEC commissioners will be voting on whether or not to drop the appeal. As a closed-door SEC meeting was held on March 27, it was expected that the commissioners would reach a conclusion. However, till now there have been no official announcements by the SEC. Based on Rispoli’s prediction, the voting process will be held in the next 25 days..
Ripple Case Resolution Within Two Months?
After the vote is taken, the SEC will send a motion to the judge who oversaw the case last year. This motion will be requesting the annulment of the previous injunction. The attorney expects that Judge Torres will give her approval within 30 days from the date of filing the motion. As such, based on Rispoli’s predictions, the SEC Ripple lawsuit will be resolved in nearly 60 days. This prediction comes from a March 25 X post, meaning we should expect the Ripple lawsuit ending on May 24.
No Word from the Top: What XRP Traders Should Know
As of March 29, this institution has not released any statements regarding the SEC vs Ripple lawsuit. However, Eleanor Terrett has mentioned that the SEC will probably give an official confirmation after the commissioners vote. As such, if nothing special happens, we could be sure that this case will not have any further developments. So, based on this data, purchasing XRP tokens before the official announcement might be a lucrative opportunity. However, monitoring the fundamental and technical signals still remains essential.
