Polygon Labs Launch .polygon Domains in Collaboration With Unstoppable Domains

Polygon Labs, the company behind the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain Polygon, announced Tuesday the launch of its native domain name dubbed .polygon. Polygon achieved the feat with the support of the domain name service provider Unstoppable Domains.

A crypto domain name is an address used to represent complex texts like wallet addresses in a simple format. Unlike the traditional domain name system (DNS) stored in a network’s server, crypto domains live on the blockchain. They can be called NFT domains since anyone can sell a domain in an NFT marketplace.

Polygon Ventures Into Domain Name System

The .polygon domain will enable users to trade cryptocurrencies and NFTs without involving complex wallet addresses. It will also ease logging into Web3 platforms and creating websites.

Polygon users across over 750 blockchain-based projects existing on the layer-2 network will be able to create a unique digital identity using the .polygon alias.

The platform urged users to book a reservation to claim a Polygon domain at a 25% discount (worth $25), valid for 48 hours. From March 16, Unstoppable Domains will offer “exclusive access to premium .polygon gaming and digit domains.”

Polygon & Unstoppable Domains Deepens Partnership

In October 2021, Unstoppable Domains signaled to its community that it would partner with Polygon Labs. A month later, the domain issuing project partnered with Polygon Labs. The collaboration enabled users to trade domain names on the Polygon network for free.

Commenting on the latest launch of a Polygon-native domain, Sandy Carter, the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Business Development at Unstoppable Domains, said:

“User-owned digital identity is the future of the Internet, and with the Polygon ecosystem, we’re putting the power of user-owned digital identities into more people’s hands.”

Meanwhile, Unstoppable Domains’ partnership journey has been ongoing for some time. The project has forged partnerships with crypto wallet providers Trust Wallet and Coinbase. On these wallets, it enabled the usage of one of its flagship NFT domains – .crypto.
