Justin Sun Defends Decision to Splash $4.5M On Lunch With Warren Buffett

Justin Sun reveals the impact of the $4.5 million lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett on him

Tron founder Justin Sun has finally defended the decision he made in 2019 to splash $4.5 million on a lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett. In a recent post on X, Sun said:

“I believe that the Buffett lunch is of great significance to me and I think it holds equal importance in Buffett’s life. Seizing this opportunity in my own life is extremely important and has had a profound impact on me. This experience has shaped my perspective and will continue to influence my decisions and aspirations. Overall, I consider it to be a pivotal moment that I am grateful for and we always cherish in my life”.

Justin Sun and Warren Buffett Lunch

In 2019, Sun won the eBay charity auction to have lunch with the famous investor Buffett with a $4.57 million bid. Notably, Buffett has been highly skeptical of cryptocurrencies, once referred to bitcoin as “rat poison squared” and predicted that investing in cryptocurrencies could have “bad endings”. He also said that Bitcoin has “no unique value” and will eventually become worthless.

Therefore, the Tron founder said he planned to use the three-hour lunch to discuss the progress of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology with Buffett which might aid in changing his perspective regarding crypto.

Although the event was first postponed because Sun fell ill with kidney stones, the lunch later took place in 2020 at Happy Hollow Club in Omaha, Nebraska. The Chinese crypto entrepreneur brought several guests including Litecoin creator Charlie Lee, eToro CEO Yoni Assia as well as the CFO of Huobi, Chris Lee, and the head of the Binance Charity Foundation, Helen Hai.

The Impact of the $4.56M Lunch on Sun

According to Sun in a video that lasted approximately five minutes, he said that he saw the event as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the legendary investor Buffett and discuss his ideas. He claimed that their discussion had a profound effect on him as an entrepreneur and investor

He mentioned Buffett’s health and the death of his right-hand man Charlie in November last year, saying that he thinks that a lunch with the investor might be impossible to repeat, although he hopes that Buffett will live for many more years from now. He added that he views himself as a fortunate individual because if he had not seized the opportunity in 2019, there might not be another now.
