Mexican Football Club Chivas to Auction Its NFT on Avalanche Blockchain

Chivas club launches NFT

Popular Mexican professional football team, the Club Deportivo Guadalajara, also known as Chivas, announced today that it would be auctioning its non-fungible token (NFT)  on Avalanche blockchain by next month to celebrate its 115 years of existence.

According to a press release shared with Coinfomania, Chivas noted that the one-month auction event is expected to commence from June 7 to July 9, and will be conducted on open-source platform Avalanche blockchain.

Chivas has also partnered with Avocado Blockchain, which is tasked with the responsibility of developing unpublished materials for the club in the form of NFT, in a bid to excite its fans and other collectors in Mexico and other parts of the world.

Part of the funds generated in the upcoming auction will be allocated to the Jorge Vergara Foundation, a non-profit group focused on improving the health of children and adolescents living in Mexico and the world at large, the release added.

Amaury Vergara, president of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, said the latest initiative is part of the club’s effort to innovate and give fans exciting experiences.

“With the ecosystem of NFTs and digital collectibles in Mexico at full maturity, we want to digitally approach all our followers in Guadalajara, Mexico and beyond our borders,” Vergara said.

Chivas Launches NFT Fan Contest

Notably, Guadalajara added that it would be giving fans the opportunity to have their dream featured in the design of the upcoming NFT, by allowing them to participate in an open contest on popular social media platforms, including Instagram and Twitter.

The contest, dubbed the Rojiblanco Anniversary Digital Illustration Contest, will require Chivas’ fans to submit unpublished drawings, photographs, illustrations, collages and gif animations of the club.

The winners will have their work tokenized alongside 11 other NFTs created by the club. In addition, 50% of the revenue generated during the auction will be given to the artist.

Chivas hopes to bring its fans closer to the team via the contest, which begins today and is scheduled to end on June 13.

The winner will be selected and announced on June 21, with his or her work published alongside other official NFTs.
