Brave Browser Halts Referral Program In 5 Countries Including China

Brave

Blockchain-based browser, Brave has made an important change in its Referral program for security reasons, the project announced on Friday. Following the update, Brave will no longer offer the program in five different countries.

The Brave Referral Program was launched in 2018 to reward online publishers with up to $1 million worth of Basic Attention Token BAT, as an essential part of its worldwide growth.

As Coinfomaina previously reported, the Brave Referral Program recorded over eight million active users globally in October 2019, and by May 2020, the numbers reached 15 million.

Since its launch, the Brave Referral Program has far surpassed its target of $1 million Doller in BAT considering the number of users on the platform.

However, in recent times, very high rates of fraudulent activity have been recorded around certain regions across the Referral Program platform, Brave said in its announcement

We caught this fraudulent activity before any BAT was paid out. But, in order to ensure the referral program continues for legitimate Brave referrers, we have to take action.

Considering the high volume of concentrated fraudulent activities in particular regions, Brave deems if fit halt its services in five countries namely: Indonesia, China, Russia, Vietnam, and Ukraine. The ban will go into effect starting Thursday, June 11, 2020.

The browser notes that this adjustment will affect not only the referral Program but also all exiting creators in and around the listed regions. They are advised to top all referral Campaigns in the meantime.

Furthermore, operating creators will henceforth be required to tender an ID-verified Uphold account to continue using the Referral Program as a creator.

Meanwhile, Brave subscribers who are not affected by the change are encouraged to feel free as they use the Brave Browser anywhere in the world.
