Web2 Reborn? Solana’s dApp Store Comes Under Fire for Hiding Tulip dApp Amid Controversy

Solana

Solana’s mobile phone Saga is set to go on public sale on May 8th. However, the mobile device was hit with some backlash from certain individuals who have laid their hands on the phone. Due to a feature exhibited in its decentralized app (dApp) store, users argue that Saga might just be another Web2 device.

What Happened?

Hello Moon, a Solana-based developer platform that helps companies engage with on-chain data, showed public interest in the business activities of Tulip protocol, another Solana-based project that offers yield products. The platform published an article on Medium about the flow of funds within Tulip.

Hours ago, a member of Crypto Twitter stated that Tulip appears to have rugged its users. Hello Moon acted on that information and took down the Medium article. It also raised allegations that Tulip may be a scam project. This sparked a series of tweets within the Twitter community.

A Tulip spokesperson subsequently explained the matter through a Twitter thread to straighten matters. The spokesperson alleged that Hello Moon accused Tulip of mishandling funds when in reality the developer platform didn’t understand Tulip’s liquidation process and could not read the blockchain. Hello Moon also termed Tulip as a rug pull after being unable to access Tulip’s Discord server.

The Tulip protocol mouthpiece added that Hello Moon failed to ask questions privately about the issue but instead went public. Tulip noted that it had provided the developer platform with all necessary transaction IDs related to the matter so that they can be vetted.

Hello Moon, on its part, stated that it is currently working with Tulip to verify things before taking further steps.

This, however, has created a rift for Tulip, as Solana has hidden its dApp in the Saga device to shield users from accessing the service.

Another Web2 Device?

The Tulip spokesperson stated that Solana’s move to hide Tulip was improper.

“[Solana mobile] has hidden our dapp on the Saga dapp store until Hellomoon gives the OK. This is a terrible policy and precedent to set. This means anytime someone launches a dapp, a competitor can create FUD and [Solana mobile] will hide the app on the dapp store,” the spokesperson wrote.

Some users within the community supported the idea of Solana Mobile hiding the Tulip dApp. One user said it would be a bad image for the mobile device if a rug pull occurs on one of its dApps as it makes its first public appearance.

More users were on the side that such a move is heavily centralized and defeats the purpose of a dApp. One user even compared Saga app policies to those featured on the Apple app store.
