Solana Announces New Blockchain Smartphone for Web3 Experience

Solana Mobile, the newly established mobile technology division of Solana Labs, has unveiled its first Android smartphone to promote the web3 experience on the go.

Solana Announces New Smartphone

In an official report on Thursday, the company disclosed that it plans to launch a new smartphone dubbed “Saga” in 2023.

As per the report, the new flagship mobile device is designed with unique capabilities and features tightly integrated with the Solana blockchain to promote accessible and secured transactions in web3.

Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana, noted that the device marks the beginning of a new era for web3 experience on mobile.

“Almost 7 billion people use smartphones around the world, and more than 100 million people hold digital assets – and both of those numbers will continue to grow. Saga sets a new standard for the web3 experience on mobile,” he said.

Saga was designed and produced by OSOM, one of the leading technology companies in the industry, with a specialty crypto wallet that allows users to store and manage their assets efficiently. The smartphone will feature some of the latest Android specifications, including security elements built to secure the device.

The report also noted that interested users can pre-order the phone for delivery early next year.

Solana Unveils Solana Mobile Stack

Aside from Saga, Solana introduced an open-source software toolkit called Solana Mobile Stack (SMS), a protocol for Android native web3 applications to deploy on the blockchain.

Solana Mobile Stack offers a set of libraries specifically designed to run alongside Android for wallets and apps to promote the development of comprehensive mobile experiences on Solana.

The report noted that SMS features a Seed Vault that secures the custody of the network with instant confirmation of transactions.

In addition, the Solana Mobile Stack offers DevOps libraries and programming layouts for Android applications. It also protects private key storage to create dApp functionalities on Solana. The new infrastructure is available for use with instant delivery.

Solana Launches $10M Fund

The Solana Foundation also launched a $10 million ecosystem investment and grant fund to promote the adoption of web3 and bolster the development of Android-native decentralized applications. The new funds will be allocated to software developers building on Solana Mobile Stack.

Earlier this month, Solana Ventures and the Solana Foundation also announced a $100 million investment capital to bolster the growth of South Korean web3 startups developing dApps on Solana.
