Pi Hackathon 2025 Registration Opens with 160K Pi Prize Pool

Pi Network has officially launched Pi Hackathon 2025. The first global hackathon since the network’s transition to Open Mainnet. The event invites developers worldwide to build applications that bring real-world utility to Pi. It showcases how cryptocurrency can function in everyday life.

With a prize pool of 160,000 Pi, the hackathon represents more than just competition. It signals Pi’s next step in encouraging innovation within its community. “Developers are invited to build Mainnet apps that empower real-world utility using Pi,” the Core Team said in an announcement. They emphasize the goal of shaping the network’s growing ecosystem.

Building for Utility

The challenge is straightforward but ambitious: create an app that promotes Pi’s usefulness and encourages more people to engage with the network. The Core Team urges developers to think beyond speculation and explore practical tools, services, and platforms that can solve real problems. Guidelines encourage participants to experiment with open-source collaboration through Pi Open Source (PiOS). 

Additionally, it uses Pi App Studio and the Brainstorm app to turn early ideas into full-featured applications. Artificial intelligence tools, such as coding assistants, are also welcome to speed up development. “Open Network means anyone can now connect, build, and transact without restrictions,” explained @PiNetwork24x7, a community account that frequently shares updates. “It’s a new chapter where Pi’s utility will be tested in the real world.”

The Road to October

Registration began on August 15, and teams may start forming immediately. The hackathon kicks off on August 21, opening several weeks of innovation and teamwork. A midpoint review on September 19 will give teams the chance to present their progress. They will receive guidance from mentors and gain early recognition. The competition concludes on October 15, with final submissions due. Each team will have to present a functional app, a brief demo video, and the completed submission materials. Judges will evaluate projects based on utility, creativity, technical depth, and user experience.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

• 1st Place: 75,000 Pi
• 2nd Place: 45,000 Pi
• 3rd Place: 15,000 Pi
• Honorable Mentions (up to five teams): 5,000 Pi each

All team members must pass Pi’s KYC verification to qualify for rewards.

Beyond the Competition

Community voices have framed the hackathon as a chance for Pi to prove its vision of accessibility and decentralization. “This is about more than prizes,” one developer noted in early discussions. “It’s about showing what Pi can do for people outside of crypto.”
