Ledger Upgrades its Live App to Securely Support ERC-20 Tokens

Cryptocurrency hardware wallet provider, Ledger has provided support for ERC-20 tokens on its Ledger Live app to give users an enhanced experience, according to an announcement from the firm today.  

Following the latest update, it is expected that the Ledger Live v.1.14.0 will support over 1,250 ERC-20 tokens and 22 coins, and supposedly enables users to manage and possible make transactions with their tokens in one app.

While commenting on the development, the Product Manager at Ledger Live, Benjamin Arama noted that

Adding ERC20 tokens gives us the ability to support over 1,250 new assets, including stable coins. Ethereum is the second biggest blockchain in the crypto world, a lot of tokens are in the top 100 of the Crypto market cap, so this has always been on our roadmap.

Moving further, Arama disclosed that the main objective for the software update today is centered on letting users observe a more accessible and a third party free experience with Ledger.

Ledger Nano X - The secure hardware wallet

Users previously rely on connecting their wallets with third-party apps such as MyEtherWallet or MetaMask, in order to interact with their tokens. They were also unable  to send and receive ERC-20 tokens aside from storing them.

The latest version, however, will provide a frictionless process for users to efficiently utilize their Ledger’s hardware wallet and Live app as everything can now be managed in one place. 

Ledger hopes to expands its platform’s compatibility with more cryptocurrencies as well as introduce more useful features.

“While the ERC-20 token integration has brought a plethora of new cryptocurrencies to Ledger Live, we still aim to add even more crypto assets to the platform,” Ledger stated.
