IOTA Foundation Launches IOTA Access Framework for Smart Devices

IOTA Access

IOTA Foundation, the nonprofit established to support the development of the IOTA platform and related technologies, has announced the launch of IOTA Access, an open-source distributed ledger technology framework for smart devices.

IOTA Access is developed by IOTA Foundation and its several regular launch partners, Jaguar Land Rover, STMicroelectronics, EDAG, RIDDLE&CODE, NTT DATA Romania, ETO GRUPPE, and BiiLabs to create a system that allows access control to any machine in the world without obstructions.

Per the announcement, the framework will focus on access control on any device, building structure, or any machine without needing a constant internet connection or a centralized system to function.

Access is specially designed for pay-per-use functionalities and enables a quality access control system that involves scalable security and services platforms.

In other ways, the framework can connect automatically to devices that can offer services through embedded access control policies.

This enables device owners and users to either request or grant access to their devices or data streams in a decentralized manner, thus boycotting centralized institutions and third party controls.

The IOTA Access seeks to balance semi-centralized management processes and decentralized technologies to prevent technology trust from eating away in the global community.

Some use cases of Access include Wi-Fi connections without worry, zero trust at scale, and the gig economy without middlemen.

Although the product is currently in Alpha Stage, the IOTA Foundation and its partners will continue to refine and develop Access to progress into Beta Stage and then full production readiness.
