In its fight against the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Integro Foundation alongside Binance Charity Foundation has raised $1 million in cryptocurrencies to provide 500,000 KN-95 Masks for frontline workers and the vulnerable globally.
According to a press release shared with Coinfomania today, the Puerto Rico-based philanthropic organization made support of $330,000. At the same time, Binance doubled this donation, to boost the coverage of its “Crypto Against COVID” campaign across more nations.
The 500,000 KN-95 Masks will be shared equally to frontline workers and the vulnerable across different nations, including Brazilian Amazon, Argentina, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Dominican Republic, Bermuda, Barbados, Russia, Puerto Rico, among others.
Under the initiative, both parties would leverage the blockchain technology to make donations in cryptos and track its implementation, which further showcases the tech’s potential.
Brock Pierce, Chairman of the Board of Integro Foundation, said that the non-profit organization is committed to forming strategic alliances with other firms to raise funds that would cushion the COVID-19 pandemic effect on the Caribbean Island.
“We’re very grateful that Binance Charity has partnered with Integro Foundation to turn their focus to Puerto Rico, and provide support during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
Not only has Integro Foundation provided personal protective equipment (PPEs) for health workers in Puerto Rico during this period, the foundation has also expanded its COVID-19 support by feeding over 12,000 families that are heavily affected by the pandemic in the nation.
Commenting on the development, Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity, said the foundation is still committed to providing support to aid workers and hospitals globally, which prompted its partnership with Integro to ensure its relief materials cover more sectors.
“It is with great pleasure to present the Caribbean Islands, Africa, Russia, and Latin America with our PPE contributions during this time of need,” Hai added.
Launched in March, Binance’s “Crypto Against COVID” campaign has been supportive, essentially for countries heavily hit by the virus.
During its launch, the philanthropic arm of the popular exchange called on crypto enthusiasts to make donations of $5 million in cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Ripple (XRP), to provide medical supplies for affected nations.
