Gemini Becomes Lead Sponsor of Peter McCormack’s Real Bedford FC

Gemini

Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss revealed that the exchange will become the official sponsor of Real Bedford FC, the English football club owned by popular bitcoin investor and podcast host, Peter McCormack. The latest announcement continues the growing trend of crypto-sports partnerships

In a tweet on Sunday, Tyler Winklevoss disclosed the Bedford FC Gemini sponsorship which furthers McCormack’s vision to promote Real Bedford FC to the Premier League. Per the deal, the Geminin logo will appear on the club’s jersey. The club will leverage Gemini’s popularity to increase its fanbase, bringing it closer to its goal.

Gemini Sponsor Sparks McCormack’s Bedford FC Ambitions

Earlier in December 2021, McCormack announced that he had purchased the football club for an undisclosed amount, and become its chairman.

In a lengthy Twitter thread, the Bitcoin proponent divulged his ambition to take the club from its current standing in South Midlands League Division 1 to the highly coveted Premier League.

According to McCormack, he intends to achieve this ambitious goal using the leading cryptocurrency, bitcoin. He called on fellow bitcoin investors and crypto companies to contribute funds toward the cause to improve the club and attract better players and managers.

He noted that Bedford FC will operate as a “bitcoin club,” adding that he intends to manage the club by “a bitcoin standard, introducing crypto sponsorships, endorsements, training programs for fans, and supporting open-source development.”

“It’s all about winning games, to win games you need the best players and managers. To afford the best players and managers you need to be commercially successful. I will establish our club as the #bitcoin club, a team that operates on a #bitcoin standard…  Where local teams can only tap into a local community of fans/companies to drive revenue, we have a global army of #bitcoin holders and companies who can get behind this. We have so much leverage. An army of 150m #bitcoin holders and companies can be part of this journey,” McCormack tweeted.

In recent times, several crypto firms have partnered with sports clubs and some top sports stars as they strive to attract new investors to the crypto industry. For instance, the Gemini sponsor of Real Bedford has created an avenue for the club’s growth. Just last month, crypto exchange Crypto.com signed a sponsorship deal with LA’s Angel City FC.
