The partnership will see the tennis champion bring more women to the FTX platform and into the future of Web3. Osaka will also actively participate in directing and producing content.
Being a global ambassador of FTX, Osaka will receive an equity stake in FTX and will be receiving additional compensation in crypto.
The crypto exchange also noted that it will also donate to Play Academy, a charity organization created by Naomi Osaka, in partnership with Nike, Inc. and Laureus Sport for Good, with the aim of changing the lives of girls through play and sport.
Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX, said:
“Just as FTX is at the forefront of crypto markets, we want to be at the forefront of social change. Our partnership with Naomi Osaka will further our goal of getting more diverse voices involved in the future of digital currency and Web3. I am excited to work with Naomi as we look to educate those groups and create a positive impact in the world.”
Naomi Osaka is well-known for promoting social justice causes and elevating mental health awareness. Putting in the effort to bring in women into the rapidly growing crypto industry simply extends her work towards equality and pushing the culture forward.
“We have seen the statistics about how few women are part of crypto by comparison, which kind of mirrors the inequality we see in other financial markets. Cryptocurrencies started with the goal of being accessible to everyone and breaking down barriers to entry,” Osaka said.
The tennis player went further to say that she was excited to partner with FTX so as to get back to the mission of promoting the use of cryptocurrencies, and innovate new ways to reach more people and further democratize the space.
As a way of publicizing the crypto exchange, Osaka will be making her first appearance with the FTX logo on her looks for the upcoming Miami Open.
