Cryptocurrency hardware wallet, Trezor, has created awareness about a fake ‘Trezor One’ hardware wallet currently in the market and has warned users to be vigilant while purchasing the device.
In a blog post by Trezor on Monday, November 20, the crypto wallet firm made this shocking revelation about a “one-to-one copy of Trezor One” currently in the market, manufactured by an unknown vendor.
Trezor stated that although the company has witnessed clones of its hardware from third-party producers, this recent development is a little bit shocking as one could hardly differentiate between the original and fake ‘Trezor One’ hardware wallets replica.
We have experienced it first-hand, as Trezor clones have been released over the years of our activity. However, in recent weeks, we have discovered something more startling. A one-to-one copy of Trezor One, part of the post reads.
Prior to this time, Trezor’s clones have been marketed under different names and vendor, making it possible for users to differentiate between the products easily. However, the latest model is using Trezor’s name to operate, and identical regarding the hardware components while seeking to be original as possible.
Trezor Users are Urged to Tread with Caution
The wallet company has informed users to be watchful when acquiring the device, stating that even though “a fake Trezor One is often sold at a steep discount,” users should conduct a thorough check on the hologram and barcode sticker to differentiate the original from the replica
“Be very cautious when buying on other marketplaces, such as eBay, Taobao, AliExpress, unknown Amazon resellers or other places, If you are not sure about the authenticity of the seller or the channel, always proceed with the official channels,” Trezor said.
This tends to be the latest move by scammers to steal crypto funds from unsuspecting existing and new crypto investors, just like they have done in the past with fraudulent free tokens giveaway and endorsements under the name of successful crypto firms.
