The crowdfunding round, dedicated solely to the feature-length Ethereum documentary film, featuring Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, has raised more than the expected target amount needed to fund the movie production.
According to a recent report, the crowdfunding, which ended on July 16, raised a total of 1,035.96 ETH, worth over $1.9 million at press time.
This total figure had far exceeded the project’s initial expectation of 750 ETH.
‘Ethereum: The Infinite Garden’
The documentary, dubbed “Ethereum: The Infinite Garden,” promises to explore the innovative real-world applications of the Ethereum blockchain and its community of developers and enthusiasts.
The documentary will also feature interviews with various people involved in the development of Ethereum, including its co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, and the executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, Aya Miyaguchi.
The film will be produced by the Los Angeles-based production company Optimist, with the founders Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple co-directing it.
The crowdfunding for the Ethereum documentary took place in the Mirror, a decentralized, user-owned and crypto-based network, bringing together about 662 backers for the project.
Crypto crowdfunding is the most genuine way to raise funds for the film since it allows members of the Ethereum community and crypto enthusiasts to get involved in the project and shape its outcome, considering that it is still currently in the early stages of development.
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring the “Infinite Garden” movie posters designed by the crypto artist Pplpleasr, whose works have appeared in several top feature films including Wonder Woman and Star Trek Beyond, have already been distributed to top contributors.
Additionally, contributors will have their names included in the film credits, but this depends on the amount they contribute toward the film production.
About 95% of the proceeds from the Ethereum documentary will be programmed to go towards the film’s production budget, while 2% of the sums will be distributed through a donation to Carbonfund.org for carbon offsets and 3% given to Gitcoin to support open-source Ethereum projects.
Development and casting for the film are still ongoing and the Ethereum documentary is expected to be released in the winter of 2023.
The release of the movie will signify another landmark moment for Ethereum. Just a few days ago, the Brazilian regulators approved the launch of the first Ethereum ETF.
