Decentraland, the virtual world powered by Ethereum blockchain, announced today that it would be conducting its biggest-ever Hackathon – an intensive two-week creative deep dive commencing September 16.
With over 250k USD worth of prizes to be won, participants will create content that will form part of Decentraland itself – anything from a multiplayer game or interactive art installation to a virtual shop. Gaming industry figures will choose the winners, who will share in two and a half million MANA (Decentraland’s cryptocurrency) and 200 LANDs (virtual plots).
Entrants, who can either work as a team or solo, will create their scenes using the Decentraland SDK and share an interactive preview of it. Decentraland will make the best creations available for LANDowners to upload.
Decentraland blogger and judge of the June Hackathon, Matty aka DCLBlogger, said: “The response to the June Hackathon was fantastic, with many community members coming up with a range of very cool and surprising creations. Based on the success of that event and two extra months of SDK maturation and feature additions, expect participants in the September Hackathon to produce even more amazing creations.”

About Decentraland
Decentraland provides an infrastructure to support a shared virtual world, also known as a metaverse. It consists of a decentralized ledger for LAND ownership, a protocol for describing the content of each land parcel, and a peer-to-peer network for user interactions. LAND in Decentraland is permanently owned by the community, giving them full control over their creations.
Users claim ownership of virtual LAND on a blockchain-based ledger of parcels.
