There is no denying that promotional activities will be crucial to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies reaching mainstream adoption. At the moment, only a fraction of the world’s population transacts cryptocurrency, with a larger percentage not even knowing what it is.
But in South Africa’s biggest train station, a Reddit user spotted an ad by Luno Exchange, prompting users to buy crypto with the message “money is evolving.” Although such ads are slowly proliferating into cities around the world and raising awareness on the shift to digital money, the latest by Luno catches the eye for a few reasons.
Gautrain, mentioned by the Reddit user, is one of the most significant commuter rail systems located in Gauteng, South Africa. It is a rapid transit commuter rail system that connects Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekurhuleni and the OR Tambo Airport.
Reportedly, the trains can transport more than 100,000 passengers daily from Monday to Friday.
With such a significant number of passengers, many people will likely be learning about Bitcoin and crypto for the first time through the advert. The move will also directly help in the adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, with another similar campaign by Grayscale dubbed DropGold, also yielding impressive results.
Meanwhile, South Africa is reported as one of the crypto-friendly African countries and is according to statistics, one of the hottest crypto markets in Africa. Almost every day, new crypto wallets are created in the country with regulators now stepping up plans to regulate the nation’s emerging crypto ecosystem.
